Freelance Illustrator Kamau Haroon AKA Sixmau uses his work to explore “social paradigms, vices, and vulnerability,” all inspired by the colorful graffiti that covers many spaces in Detroit. The name Sixmau is a combination of 6 Mile where Haroon grew up and the suffix of his first name. His work can be seen on album covers of artists including Stalley, Childish Major, J. Cole, and Playboi Carti, as well as the prints he sells online or at live art auctions. Haroon says he also enjoys photography and sometimes uses his photos as outlines or even backgrounds of his illustrations. In due time, Haroon says he hopes to host live painting auctions and be categorized as a fine artist.
