Dan Phillips, Emmy-winning makeup artists and owner of DP Studios, studied under the guidance of Oscar-winning effects and makeup artist, Dick Smith. After earning the Dick Smith Certificate of makeup artistry professional caliber, Dan then went to learn Beauty, Fashion, and Corrective makeup from JLS Makeup School in LA. As a makeup artist for over 15 years - working in film, television, stills and every conceivable special event project - Dan has worked as a special effects makeup artist all over the world and become the most sought after
makeup artist in Michigan. Some of Dan’s credits include The Hobbit Trilogy, Reel Steel, Oz The Great and Powerful, just to name a few.
Zuri is an up and coming artist whose artwork ranges from paintings to fashion design. Her artwork pushes boundaries and is created to inspire her audience. Zuri is currently working on her brand “Black Ownly”.
Musique Noire was formed in 2005. The group's members, who reside in Michigan and California are veteran players nationally and internationally, having performed with such high-profile artists as Stevie Wonder, KEM, Aretha Franklin, El Debarge, and Frank McComb among many others. Led by violinist Michelle May, a 2018 Detroit Kresge Artist Fellow, the group produces a sophisticated sound showcasing unique arrangements of world fusion music.
Musique Noire were 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2018 Detroit Music Awards nominees for Outstanding Jazz Recording (2009, 2018) and Outstanding World/Reggae Group (2009, 2010, 2011, 2018) and 2015 winners of the Best Black Female Jazz Group through Black Women in Jazz Awards out of Atlanta, GA. They were also TEDx Detroit performer/presenters in 2018.
